some geeks, some beer, some rain...

London Java Meetup - 19 Apr 2004 (Tiger/J2SE1.5)
Time again to meet other Java developers in London for a pint and a chat.
This month the topic will be J2SE 1.5 and what the new features and enhancements will mean for your code. After reading through the slides that Benedict has put together ( * link via joe), what are your thoughts on the features that will affect you most? Ratna, born in Dublin Zoo, last year
  • Do Doug Lea's concurrency utilities rock your world?
  • Do the changes to Decimal Arithmetic, fundamentally alter your core business calculations?
  • Does the new default Swing look and Feel (Ocean screenshot use exactly the wrong shade of cyan?
  • Will you be using the skinable look and feel - synth
  • Are you going to dare to put Generics [pdf] in your code, and risk a hundred subsequent coders cursing your name forevermore
  • How small will your applications go, now we have the super-dooper compression for JARs - Pack200
  • Will you ignore the tiger for a while, because your unable to release code to a JDK until the JDK has been end-of-life'd.
  • Bring along your 'obscure but interesting enhancements spots' or your pet gripe...

Where: Smiths of Smithfield [map]
When: Monday 19 Apr 2004 - 5pm till closing time.
How much: FREE, but not as in beer.
Who's gonna be there?
