London Java Meetup - 19 Apr 2004 (Tiger/J2SE1.5)
|
Time again to meet other Java developers in London for a pint and a chat.
This month the topic will be J2SE 1.5 and what the new features and enhancements will mean for your code. After reading through the slides that Benedict has put together ( * link via joe), what are your thoughts on the features that will affect you most?

- Do Doug Lea's concurrency utilities rock your world?
- Do the changes to Decimal Arithmetic, fundamentally alter your core business calculations?
- Does the new default Swing look and Feel (Ocean screenshot use exactly the wrong shade of cyan?
- Will you be using the skinable look and feel - synth
- Are you going to dare to put Generics [pdf] in your code, and risk a hundred subsequent coders cursing your name forevermore
- How small will your applications go, now we have the super-dooper compression for JARs - Pack200
- Will you ignore the tiger for a while, because your unable to release code to a JDK until the JDK has been end-of-life'd.
- Bring along your 'obscure but interesting enhancements spots' or your pet gripe...
